For Teachers:
Outreach prelab

For Undergraduates:
Outreach Activities
Outreach Listserve

Each quarter, 8 to 10 workshops are offered for 5th graders in the lab at UCSB. Each workshop includes a class of 25 to 30 students, parents and teachers. Undergraduates in the chemistry club and in general chemistry lecture classes are provided with the opportunity to teach in the chemistry outreach program. Undergraduates work with the students on a number of exciting hands-on activities in the laboratory.  The goal of the program is to help teachers develop curriculum units that meet the 5th grade physical science standards for California Public Schools, and to inspire 5th grade students to pursue science and higher education.

Teachers are asked to prepare their students for the trip - more information is in the pre-lab packet which can be viewed using the link on the left.  If you have any questions or concerns about the pre-lab, or would like to have your fifth grade class be a part of the program, please let us know.

Undergraduates - if you are interested in volunteering, please check the schedule for meeting times and locations. Before coming, we ask that you read the outlined procedures for the various activities.  The suggested questions and information are to help guide you.  The level of students will vary so your questions and discussion with them will depend on their level.  Feel free to interact with the students in any way that you feel comfortable.  Thanks for your help - your efforts make a big difference! Sign up with the outreach listserve to get email notification of upcoming events.
