Student Profile
Kathryn Blaschke
"CCS was a great learning environment and a place where I felt comfortable exploring my interests. " |

What CCS Meant for Me:
CCS allowed me to direct my undergraduate education and get the degree that was best for me. I had more freedom in my class schedule, which allowed me to pursue undergraduate research in a stem cell lab at UCSB. Doing undergraduate research inspired me to pursue a Ph.D. doing stem cell research after I graduated. I had more contact with faculty and I took classes I was genuinely interested in, not just to fulfill requirements. Being around talented scientists, both students and faculty, helped me become a better scientist myself.
Future Plans
I am currently working towards a PhD in the Biomedical Sciences program at UC San Francisco.
Awards
National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, 2009
Chancellor's Award for Undergraduate Research, 2007
Research / Publications
I am currently working in Dr. Miguel Ramalho-Santos’s lab studying the process of reprogramming somatic cells to induced pluripotent stem cells.
